The Netherlands

City+ is the annual international conference for PhD students and early career researchers on urban studies. After being held in the UK for two years, this year City+ 2019 will take place at the Department of Urbanism of Delft University of Technology on 11th October. During the conference, five thematic blocks of selected presentations will provide the audience a view on the newest development in the field of urbanism. People who submit abstracts will be asked to present their works on a poster no matter whether their works are selected for lectern presentation or not. The posters will form a ‘Wall of Fame’. By using these posters, the moderators of each block will summarise the state of the art in the field of urbanism in accordance with the five themes of the conference: Urban landscape and shrinking cities; Land use and transport planning; Housing availability and affordability; Smart city and urban sustainability; and Urban heritage preservation and renovation.

This conference is in cooperation with University of Cambridge, University College London, University of Westminster, King’s College London, and the Association for European Transport. The event is supported by City+, a UK-based research network led by PhD students and early career researchers who are working at the frontier of urban studies. This conference will provide PhD students and early career researchers with a wonderful opportunity to share their knowledge and research experience of urban studies from their unique perspectives and to discuss the newest topics.

This event will contribute to the vibrant debate in urbanism, regarding its challenging question: To what extent can human efforts relating to the development of urban technologies and institutions promote the sustainability, liveability, and health of cities? This City+ event will help to learn about this debate, to become enriched with new knowledge, to learn from innovatory development, and to meet old and make new friends.
